How to mount a fine art print

So, perhaps you’ve purchased a fine art print from me, I’d like to show you how to handle it further. The prints are all shipped in tubes because that’s the best and safest way to do it for smaller sizes and the only way for the large ones. I don’t sell frames prints yet due to the fact that this would raise the shipping costs substantially and it is a lot cheaper to frame them on your end. If you do this yourself, please make sure all the materials you use are acid free. This is very important for conserving the archival properties of the fine art print.

After flattening the print, you can go ahead and mount it, or you might want to take the tube to a frame maker who can do it all for you.

WIth the print, you will receive a note with the exact measurements for the mount. That way, you can order it online or by phone with your local frame maker.

Once you have the mount, you can fixate the print with a couple small strips of tape and check the alignment.

After checking if the print is in the right place, you can go ahead and tape the whole edge of it to the mount.

I prefer to use a backing sheet of acid free cardboard for the additional thickness of the mount and protection of the backside of the print.

Using a glue roller, I put a stripe of glue on the back of the mount.

Now, you can put the front and the back together and you’ll end up with a nice, thick mount which is perfect for framing. This could be taped together on the sides, but it isn’t necessary. The frame will press the parts up against each other.

And here’s the mount with the image in it, ready to be framed. That’s coming up here next week.
